Cacao breakfast smoothie recipe

Cacao breakfast smoothie

We’re big on breakfasts which taste like dessert – like this dreamy blend of cacao, cinnamon and banana.

Since discovering cacao powder (the raw, unheated form of chocolate which is said to be less processed than cocoa powder, and far richer in nutrients, healthy fats and fibre) it’s become a staple ingredient in our kitchen. Cheap, it ain’t, but you don’t need a lot to reap its amazing flavour and health benefits. Just a spoonful is said to deliver a powerful dose of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. It’s also said to help control hunger and increase happiness. What better way to start the day! Here’s how to make it…

Makes 1 smoothie

You will need:

  • 1/2 banana, sliced (preferably frozen)
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp natural salted peanut butter or almond butter (We use Meridian)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Handful spinach
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk of choice (or half milk and half water)
  • 1 heap tbsp natural, unflavoured protein powder (optional)
  • Few cubes ice

Method:

Blitz everything together until smooth and creamy.

Yum! Need to try this! Love having raw cacao in my porridge, sweetened with some date syrup. It’s so good for you containing all those minerals and antioxidants.
